RTI maintains the capability for preparing soil samples by using the drying and grinding techniques specified in EPA SW-846 method 8330B for discrete and Incremental Samples (IS). The analysis of explosives and propellant residue is performed by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) or traditional High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) via method 8330B. This method quantifies the concentration of 17 compounds, including Nitroglycerine, PETN and 3,5-Dinitroaniline. A modified method is used in the determination of Nitroguanidine.

Perchlorate can be determined in aqueous and solid samples via Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry utilizing tandem mass spectrometers (LC/MS/MS), per EPA method 6850. RTI is also experienced in the analysis of incendiary White Phosphorus by EPA method 7580. This technique analyzes both aqueous and solid samples by Gas Chromatography with a Nitrogen Phosphorus Detector (GC/NPD).
